I’m going to let you in on a secret, ok? Actually, it may be one of the, if not the best-kept secret in South Dallas.
Located in a far back corner of Southside on Lamar lies Checkered Past Winery, an underground hangout for those in-the-know. Checkered Pastis a self-proclaimed “Urban Wine Pub” and that describes it just perfectly. It’s large and industrial but with an intimate feel. It’s private and secluded, yet familiar and comfortable. It’s…perfect.
The owners of Checkered Past serve their own private label wines, of course, but they also specially curate each and every other wine that comes through their doors. With precision and skill, the rotating list of available wines to enjoy are sure to make anybody a lover of wine. With a lineup of regular entertainment, it seems like each and every night is a hot one for Checkered Past. From comedy to jazz, open mic to magic, just check out Checkered Past‘s calendar here to see all of the fun going down. Speaking of, there are still a few tickets left to the much anticipated Wine & Magic show with Trigg Watson coming up this weekend so be sure to scoop them up! Tickets can be found here: http://triggmagic.com/wineandmagic/
On top of both the Checkered Past and other wine labels available, they also have super fun specialty wines (like the delicious Haak Vineyards Madeira that we had the pleasure of trying for the first time during our visit to CP) and some of the best damn frose’ that you’ll find in town.
What is a wine bar, er, pub without great food, right? I’m not talking about boring ol’ cheese and crackers either here, folks. From duck salami to smoked salmon, flatbreads to traditional New York Style Cheesecake, the food at Checkered Past certainly doesn’t disappoint.
Here is a glimpse at some of our favorites from our visit to Checkered Past:
Are you drooling yet? I sure am.
So, we’ve got an awesome environment, great wine, delicious food, AND entertainment several nights a week? That sounds like a bunch of reasons why you need to head over to Checkered Past Winery in Southside to see for yourself just what a gem it is.
