Did you know that only 9% of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities are employed in North Texas?
Local organization, My Possibilities, is doing their part to change that and needs YOUR help!
First off, what is My Possibilities? It is an incredible organization, created by three Plano moms in 2008 who each had a child with a disability that was graduating high school. The options moving forward were extremely limited so they decided to create a continuing education program for individuals with IDD (intellectual and developmental disabilities). In just ten short years, My Possibilities has made a huge difference in the community and now they are hoping to house a retail training center on their campus. “This retail opportunity will not only employ individuals with disabilities, but it will also serve as a training center for the community,” says Beth Palmer, My Possibilities’ Social Media and Public Relations Coordinator.
My Possibilities is one of five organizations that will be competing in United Way‘s Social Innovation Accelerator, a mentor-driven social innovation fun, and impact accelerator program that allows YOU to #Vote2ChangeLives. The winner of the social media component can win up to $50,000 with the help of the community voting daily between April 8th and April 16th.
Be sure to save the date and make your vote count towards changing the lives of so many deserving individuals and families!
